It’s been a while my friends… A frenzy of activity has been the cause of our silence the last while, which we shall now account for.
The vinyl edition of the War Coma / Jesus Bruiser split album is almost back, so keep a look out for photos of it soon at Wretched Form record distribution and order it either from us or one of the host of European D.I.Y labels contributing to it, to be listed soon.
The second print run of “Against & Beyond” fanzine is here; get in touch for a copy or to distro it.
Next, to recap upcoming Bastard Squad gigs (with updates on the details from past posts below this one) are as follows:
Saturday April 30th – Oi Polloi, Divine Spark, War/System, and now with Casus (début show for the latest in hard-edged epic crust-hardcore from this South-West punk assortment; get there early) playing at The White Hart, raising cash for 325.nostate.net. Flyer here.
Wednesday May 4th – Thee Infidels, Luvdump, plus Taunton’s ska’d-up h/c Po-Lice hit The Plough, Bristol. Benefit in preparation of the Bristol Anarchist Bookfair that Saturday (7th, check the upcoming South-West events page for details of their afterparty that night with Collectif Mary Read brought over by Wretched Form tour booking!). Flyer here.
Friday May 13th – Deportation, Constant State of Terror, and No,Humans,No! – the return from hiatus of scatty South-Coast hardcore now mostly relocated to Bristol. Marking our return to The Queen’s Head pub in Easton. Benefit for Bristol Space Invaders; flyer up soon for this weekend of fun and (alcho)frolics for the 40th birthday of someone very close to our Bastardly hearts, the madness continues the following day; Saturday May 14th – Bomb Blast Men, Human Compost, The Fiend!, Geraniüm, The Pukes (stomping London ladies ukulele punk cover act!), plus Murder of Crows (grind, sludge, d-beats, moodiness) and another newly gigging local combo – Aberrant (from depths of gradually building minimal chords to climatic crashing via occasional slabs of rocking crust: note, will likely not please punk purists…), all at The Croft, The Contested Zone Known As Stokes Croft.
(The Appalachian Terror Unit gig Thursday May 26th is still going ahead with Bullet-Ridden and Murder of Crows although no longer via the Bastard Squad Collective, see you there!)
Saturday June 4th – Risposta, Evidence Smrti, Cry Havoc (Sheffield’s frontline in the new wave of British d-beat!), Filthy Habits (sturdy South Wales D.I.Y anarcho), and This Ends Here (tuneful hardcore from over the bridge/down the road) will also be at The Queen’s Head, Easton. Fundraising for Total Distro, a free anarchist zine resource. Flyer soon, check out the other U.K dates we’ve booked the Czech bands here.
Saturday June 11th – Chicken’s Call (more details of their U.K shows courtesy of Wretched Form tour booking here), Spanner, Eastfield (Birmingham three-chord genius), and Aberrant (is this even punk? Discuss…) at The Plough, benefit for “Against & Beyond” fanzine. Flyer soon.
Friday August 26th – Cop on Fire (edgy flowing dub darkness from Belgian militants), Juggling Jugulars (Finland, 22 years of melodic punk-hardcore!), Left for Dead (chugging cider-fuelled Southerners) and a special surprise to be announced… More information soon.
Leading us nicely on to… SUBVERT 2011! In addition to confirmation of the weekend (7th-9th of October) we can now let out of the bag one of the bands down to play: the mighty Hellkrusher who sadly couldn’t make last year in the end will be reviving the dis-core for all to see in their first Bristol gig in a long time. Plenty more treats in the pipeline as far as the rest of the line-up goes so watch this space for updates on that and this year’s events surrounding the gig itself.
The week after the festival, Wretched Form tour booking are delighted to bring Bremen’s long-standing melodic hardcore unit Kobayashi over from Germany; a provisional route is up and booking to commence soon so keep those eyes peeled my pretties.
There will probably not be a Bristol date on their tour sadly after the mammoth task of SUBVERT the week before will probably leave us pretty drained; more involvement by South-West punks is welcome in the Collective (for SUBVERT and also in general), so if you dig any of non-commercial punks’ various shades and have time to put into making things happen, get in touch! Let’s spread the sound…
More soon, including a long-awaited links page update and overhaul (apologies to bands that have played or soon to play who’s links aren’t up yet) and a stock-take of Wretched Form record distribution‘s stall.
