During the last days we squatted a "casa cantoniera" in Reggio Emilia, in the north-center italy, called "La selva" to express our needs of spaces in this city that don’t give any kind of space at new-situations other than ordinary disco-pub. In times where we have used to live under atomic disorder, tribal wars and social control, in the name of our freedom of thinking, we propose the occupation of empty and scruffy building inside the city, as a first step toward an alternative future which is not based on commodification of work and pleasure, with the re-appropriation and the critic against the society, than delete our present, past and future.
This occupation must be the beginning and not the end of a collective living outside the pay-work-consume-dye routine. Having a space like this give us the possibility to build and create new pats out of the passive logics of seller-buyer, or worst - as happen in many of the italian “centri sociali” - where this logic is made of manager-follower.
In times where they sell us even time for our pleasure, we claim the right of a creative space, with a screen-printing, gigs out of the business, popular dinners, a multimedial room with free access and a library, a space to create arts out of the mainstream laws.
The same Zeitgeist unite us with similar situations which are present in UK, Spain, France, Holland, Greece, Germany, Swiss and over.
We are not the first and we wont be the lasts.
This is our answer to the degradation where empty houses are been closed and unused, in every city; in this way, they force poor people to do crazy things to survive, as they where asking for charity, and with the continuous rise of the price of houses.
Into and around this place we are not tollerating from the beginning any type of selling drugs.
To create a place of aggregation that allow people to live growing their potentials to outgoing from fixed schemes, creating our pats of collective living.
A space where creativity is not a part of sell-and-expose but it take part to the construction of the reality in the sense of personal and collective liberation.
So well, at the end, even in a small and nice city like Reggio Emilia, the concreting and the living degradation can be overwhelmed.
At last, the self-management is real and tangible in this operation from an artistic point of view we can consider it inside the concept of post-modern, than even us consider catastrophic: maybe better the first surrealism , the berlin’s dadaism, the punk movement, the moove of san francisco, and some situationist practic that someone of us studied, that clarify the crisis of art, music, culture, knowledge, and in which we see the considerable misery that they reached in this times.
